Port of Southport

Southport is a key marine destination on the Gold Coast, on the east coast of Queensland, Australia. Set on the sheltered waters of the Southport Broadwater and accessed from the ocean via the Gold Coast Seaway, it supports a broad range of commercial, superyacht and recreational vessel movements within a busy and confined waterway.

A defining feature of the Southport approach is the Gold Coast Seaway and Broadwater transit, where available water depth in some channels limits vessel size and pilotage demands precise local knowledge of dynamic tidal and channel conditions. The pilot boarding ground lies two nautical miles east of the Gold Coast Seaway south wall, where ocean swell can make boarding challenging.

Shipping movements within the Southport Pilotage Area are managed by Maritime Safety Queensland, through the authority of the Regional Harbour Master, with Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) delivered from the Brisbane VTS centre. Southport forms an important part of the Gold Coast's maritime environment, with a diverse range of commercial, recreational and specialist vessel activity throughout the region.
